Addictions are often misunderstood as there is an unhelpful focus upon behaviour e.g. compulsively watching online porn and less on the nature of the addiction itself and what purpose it is serving.

As there is invariably some level of enjoyment or comfort associated with an addiction or other well-rehearsed pattern of behaviour, there can be a high level of ambivalence associated with the prospect of changing these behaviours. I can help you understand the nature of this ambivalence and clarify your motivation to change.

HIV & AIDS

Your sexual health & wellbeing

Whilst the effective treatment for HIV has progressed enormously over the years since the 1980s, there is still considerable misunderstanding, ignorance and stigma attached to the risk of contracting HIV and what it is to live with HIV.
I can help inform you about the nature of HIV and other STIs. If you are HIV negative, I can help you understand your sexual behaviour and the risks you may be taking.

If you are HIV positive, I can help you come to terms with living with HIV; explore how you view yourself, HIV and how you feel others may view you.
I can help with the anger, guilt and shame that can often accompany a positive diagnosis and help you make choices when it comes to disclosure, lifestyle and issues around regularly taking antiretroviral medication.

I offer a supportive environment, allowing you to talk at your own pace, about any aspect of sexual or emotional abuse you may have suffered.

You may have feelings of shame linked to your sexuality that go back to your childhood years. There may be issues around bullying and feelings of isolation at school. Parental rejection or lack of understanding may be an issue for you. Together we can explore how these memories affected you then and may still affect you today. I will help you understand how to feel better about who you are and who you want to love.

You may be influenced by those around you and go to great lengths to fit in with expectations of others without paying attention to your own needs.
I offer a supportive and safe place to explore your sexuality and make choices about what type of life you want to lead, to be fulfilled and live a more authentic life.

RELATIONSHIPS

Counselling to assist relationship changes

I offer one-to-one counselling and can help you look at issues in your current relationship that may help you decide how you feel and what, if anything, you may want to do. Relationships in which you may be experiencing issues can include; sexual and intimate issues with a partner, family relations, friends or work colleagues.

If you are not currently in a relationship, counselling can also help you understand why you don’t feel able to meet the right person, why you keep making the same mistakes when it comes to partners and how you relate to other people.

I offer a safe space where we can talk about your thoughts, feelings and emotions regarding your gender identity; working towards a new life, at the right time, at your pace, finding the more authentic and real you.

To understand yourself we may look at past experiences and try to identify patterns in your thinking and behaviour. This exploration will also help you better understand some of the choices you have made. Knowing yourself better and creating clarity, can help you make different choices in the future.
